Last Day for Poll

Tonight at Midnight, the awesome poll will be no longer. So get your votes in ASAP!
Bruce Lee & Chuck Norris are neck and neck, but Mike Tyson still needs your help.
Be on the lookout for the new poll starting this weekend!

New Cars

With each passing day, we get more and more Cars are in at Toywiz.
Besides being an awesome movie, who doesn't like Cars?
We're getting new Launchers, as well as the old favorites. We even have Cars with Lenticular eyes! How cool is that?
And with news of a sequel coming up in a few years, now is the time to get your Cars, before they can't be found!

Favorite NES Game?

The conversation here at Toywiz drifted to classic NES games, as it often does.
We got to talking about our favorite NES games, and as usual, there were many opinions thrown into the mix.
For me, it will always be Mike Tyson's punchout (Not Jack Nicklaus' Greatest 18 Holes of Major Championship Golf, although that game is pretty solid.)
What is the consensus of best NES game out there?

Memorial Day

Memorial Day has come and gone.
Big sports weekend, with the NBA and NHL playoffs still underway. Big weekend for baseball as well, with Interleague match-ups taking the place of those mundane series that we would normally get (I mean, how many Yankees-Red Sox games can we really care about?)
Memorial Day is also a time to think about all we are thankful for, and the people who have sacrificed for our country.
That being said, it is also a time to relax, take in some sports or even some movies.
So what's the best part of Memorial Day?
Sports? Movies? BBQing?

Jeff Hardy PPV 20

The Jeff Hardy figure from PPV 20 is officially the best selling figure in Toywiz.com history!
These figures are extremely hot and won't last long. It's sure to be a collector's item before the year is through. So don't wait for them to sell out to order your very own figure!

Sean Sherk Vs. Frank Edgar

The first televised fight of the night at UFC 98 on Saturday will be Sean Sherk vs. Frank Edgar.
Sean Sherk has been one of the most maligned UFC fighters in recent memory. He's been around for quite a while, bursting into the mainstream in 2001.
Sherk is possibly best known for failing a drug test in 2007. Although there is some controversy over whether it was an actual positive test, Sherk was suspended for a year. After an appeal, Sherk was able to return after just a 6-month absence.
This fight will be entertaining simply because of the names involved. Frank Edgar was featured in the MTV show , True Life: I'm a Mixed Martial Artist. So, combined with the similar fighting styles of the two, it will be an intriguing fight.
I think that Sherk will follow up his last win, over Tyson Griffin and dispose of Frank Edgar early on. Should be an interesting bout, let's see what happens!

Terminator Salvation

After the wild success of Star Trek, the next big movie to hit theaters is Terminator Salvation, being released at Midnight on May 21st.
The producers of the film decided to go in a different direction than some of the previous installments, being that it takes place in the middle of the Terminator timeline. It's a risky move, that may or may pay off.
The fact that Christian Bale was cast in the title role will instantly make people think of last Summer's big hit "The Dark Knight."
That can be both a good thing and a bad thing. On the one hand, because The Dark Knight was so successful, it's possible that the film will attract a whole new crowd that don't care much about the Terminator series.
On the other hand, his performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman could cause people to not truly believe him as John Connor. He could also risk Will Smith syndrome and people could burn out on him very quickly.
The Terminator series is one that was never expected to still be going 20 years down the road.
Originally, Arnold Schwarzenegger was not even going to be cast in the title role, with O.J. Simpson playing the role of John Connor.
The rumor is that people in the mid-80's would not have believed O.J. Simpson as being a killer...good thing that turned out correct.
So what do you think? Will Terminator live up to the hype or will it be a flop?

Johnny Damon Is In The News Again

Word on the street is that A.J. Burnett's children have really connected with Johnny Damon.
Let's be honest, Damon probably has more in common with A.J. Burnett's kids than he does with Burnett, being that he was one of the "idiots" in Boston.
Before the weekend, A.J.'s kids gave Damon a WWE championship belt. As you may know, since then, the Yankees have been on a tear, sweeping the Minnesota Twins, with three "walk-off" wins and a solid 7-6 victory last night.
Since Friday, the belt has been passed around like a badge of honor. It was presented after Friday Night's walkoff win to Melky Cabrera, who won the game for the Yanks with a 9th inning home run. It was then presented to Alex Rodriguez after the game on Saturday after he hit a HR in the 11th inning and finally, it was presented back to Damon after the provided the heroics on Sunday with a game-winning HR in the 9th inning.
The exact details of the championship belt haven't been disclosed, but how cool would it be to own the same belt that the New York Yankees have been using as the proverbial "game ball," presented to the one who provided the team with the victory? I say very cool.

WWE vs. The NBA?

Who thought that during playoff season in the NBA, the biggest head-to-head matchup wouldn't be Lebron vs. Dwight Howard?
However, that's the case. In fact, the matchup making the most headlines right now is .... Vince McMahon vs. Stan Kroenke?
Let me explain. The WWE takes it's show on the road 52 weeks a year. When the WWE takes over an arena...they completely take over an arena. I've witnessed it firsthand.
The issue here is that next Monday night, WWE Monday Night Raw is scheduled to take place at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
That's all well and good, but look at the schedule a little closer...Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference finals is also scheduled for the same night.
RAW is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. and the basketball game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. We all know that a wrestling event does not take a half hour.
The things that happen on screen for the WWE are merely the culmination of an entire day, completely transforming the arena from a hockey, or basketball venue, into something that will showcase the best the WWE has to offer.
I worked for the WWE last year when they came to Albany, NY.
Hate it or love it, it's incredibly well-run. From Vince McMahon on down, everyone knows their role and performs it effectively.
Vince McMahon, who has never passed up a chance to showcase himself or his product, has come out and exclaimed that Kroenke should be "arrested" for impersonating a businessman, because he didn't have faith in his team making it to the Western Conference finals.
McMahon has even challenged Kroenke to a "steel-cage match."
So who will win out in this argument?
And would you pay to see Vince McMahon climb into the ring with this Stan Kroenke guy?
We've had the XFL in the past, is it time for the XBA?

UFC 98

UFC 98 is coming up this weekend, and as usual, Dana White has put together a card that any MMA fan will enjoy.
White, though outspoken, does what every sport's commissioner should do. He listens to input from fans and he truly cares about the fights that he presents.
Saturday night will be no exception.
In addition to the Rashad Evans vs. Lyoto Machida match, which will leave one of the competitors with their first career loss, there will be many other interesting match-ups.
The under card include match-ups of Sean Sherk vs. Frank Edgar, Dan Miller Vs. Chael Sonnen, Drew McFedries Vs. Xavier Foupa-Pokam and the one that just about everyone is looking forward to, Matt Hughes vs. Matt "The Terror" Serra.
I will be reviewing these fights in detail leading up to the event on Saturday night, with some interesting perspectives on each match-up, so be on the lookout.

Poll Question!

The new Toywiz poll is up on the homepage, and let me tell you, it is a doozy.
The question is who would win in a fight, assuming all the participants are in their prime.
The five choices are Bruce Lee, Brock Lesnar, Chuck Norris, Shaq and Mike Tyson. Seems like an easy choice at first, but let's dig a little deeper.
As I write this, Bruce Lee is far and away in the lead. That's all well and good, but let's not count out the other participants just yet.
Brock Lesnar was the first name thrown out there when the idea for the poll question came up. There is no doubt that they guy is an absolute beast. From Football to the WWE to UFC, there is nothing this guy has not done. Some people think he is on steroids, but through all of his careers, he has never failed a drug test. Until he does, speculation should be squashed.
Next up was Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee was an martial artist who transcended the genre and has continued to be treated like a rock star, many years after his death. He would be able to beat the other contestants with ease, despite being of a smaller stature.
Next up was Chuck Norris. Some of us might remember Chuck Norris from his Walker, Texas Ranger days, when he was not exactly a fighter, but rather somewhat of a family friendly guy, who just happened to fight crime on the side. What is certain is that Walker, Texas Ranger was not what earned him his reputation, as well as the multiple websites that extol his virtues as the ultimate world beater. Norris is no lightweight.
Next up, was Shaquille O' Neal. Shaq has excelled on the court, and is a surefire hall-of-famer once he retires.
But what is unclear, other than the fictional fighting skills that he showed off in Shaq Fu (a game that badly needs to be put on the new generation gaming systems.)
Finally, and most surprisingly in terms of output so far, is Mike Tyson.
Few people seem to remember Mike Tyson from his heyday, and most people now think of him as the crazy guy who ended up in jail and can now be seen in trailers for the sure to be smash-hit "The Hangover."
Now, for my money, I wouldn't bet against Bruce Lee. The fact that he is half the size of some of the other competitors and would surely be able to take them out is a true testament to his powers. The poll will be up for two weeks, so make sure to vote!!

Star Trek!

So, I finally made it to see Star Trek last night, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
The movie itself had a very big-time feel to it, much like the newer Transformers and Batman movies. While earlier incarnations had a campy feel to it, this one came out swinging.
The acting was great, with each actor really becoming their character, rather than basing their actions on the those who portrayed the character earlier.
This is especially true of Chris Pine, who was playing Captain James Tiberius Kirk. The role has been so defined by The William Shatner that it is nearly impossible to not imagine good old Bill in the role of Captain Kirk.
Zachary Quinto, best known from his stint on Heroes seemed born to play the part of Spock, and was not overshadowed by Leonard Nimoy, who appeared in the movie as Spock Prime.
All in all, the movie is a can't miss for those among us who are Trekkies, and those who have yet to embrace their inner Trekness.
So go check out Star Trek and learn about the voyages of the starship Enterprise... Boldly go where about 75 Million people have gone before. (Corny, I know.)

Harry Potter

It seems like Harry Potter is really getting pushed to the wayside in terms of summer movies, doesn't it?
In a Summer in which a new Terminator movie is coming out and Star Trek and Wolverine is already out, one of the biggest blockbuster series of the decade is getting almost no fanfare.
I know that the movie isn't coming out until July, but here we are, mid-May and nary a word has been spoken about Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
There have been plenty of trailers shown, but it just doesn't seem to be in the mainstream like the other big movies have been this Summer.
So what it is? Is it just that Harry Potter isn't as popular, or is it being overshadowed by the other blockbusters?

H.R. Pufnstuf

Recently I got to thinking about 1970's Saturday Morning cartoons.
I'm not old enough to remember any of the cartoons from back then firsthand, but after doing some research, I'd have to say the best 1970's Saturday Morning cartoon was H.R. Pufnstuf.
For my money, any show where the main character is a helpful dragon named H.R. Pufnstuf, you just can't go wrong.

The Ultimate Showdown

The NHL could not have scripted it better. Alex Ovechkin facing off against Sidney Crosby in a winner take all showdown. It happens Wednesday night.
Of course, if the NHL knew exactly what they were doing, the game would be nationally televised and everyone would be excited.
Instead, a game that not only has the two biggest stars in the league and a win or go home background will be tough to find on TV.
So who wins? Ovechkin or Crosby? And how can the NHL market itself better?

WWE

The Jeff Hardy situation is heating up. What will he do when his contract runs out? Will he stay with the WWE or will he go to TNA?
He's an exciting wrestler, no doubt. But will he and the WWE be able to put aside their differences?

Alex Rodriguez Makes His Return

Alex Rodriguez makes his return to the lineup for the Yankees just a day after the Manny Ramirez steroids fallout has begun.
A-Rod, who on February 7th was implicated as using steroids back in 2003, underwent hip surgery in March and will play in his first game tonight.
I have a hard time really hating Alex Rodriguez. I am a Yankees fan, so I may be a little biased, but to be honest, he's a good player. The idea that he doesn't produce in the clutch is more or less because he isn't getting good pitches to hit in those situations.
It's not as if he's getting strikes down the middle when the game is on the line.
The Yankees need him to step up upon his return. Usual rumblings about Joe Girardi's job security are already happening and none of the high-priced players are producing, though Mark Teixiera shows signs of breaking out of his season long slump.
That being said, it should be an interesting weekend. Make sure to check out Star Trek and let us know your thoughts!

Lebron!

I am not the biggest basketball fan, right off the bat. However, when a player like Lebron James is in the prime of his career, I have no choice but to step back and appreciate it.
I didn't pay attention to most of Michael Jordan's career, to be honest. I just wasn't old enough to appreciate it. The Michael Jordan that I came to know is the one that wore a Birmingham Barons jersey and eventually a Washington Wizards jersey.
But for all the talk of who the "next" Jordan will be, just watch Lebron James in person.
To put it in perspective, next time you see Lebron in person, watch the crowd's reaction when he touches the ball.
To use an example from my line of extreme interest, the only time I have been blown away by an athlete is Alex Ovechkin.
I went to a Rangers-Capitals game in December and honestly, when Ovechkin touched the puck, it looked like a little league game, when one player runs circles around the others. Half of the team is looking at bugs in the outfield, while one player is going 3-3 with three home runs.
The point is this: Enjoy Lebron while you can, because when he's finished, we just might be talking about the "next" Lebron.

Star Trek: Cool?

The buzz around the office is that the New Star Trek movie is not only going to do well, but is going to be one of the biggest movies of the summer.
This has led some around these parts to wonder: Is Star Trek suddenly cool?
I've talked about the new Star Trek movie multiple times in the blog and will be seeing it the first chance I get.
But I have a different view than others of it. I've only seen a few episodes here and there, and couldn't tell you the first thing about the actual intricacies of the show.
For some in the office though, who have been following the show since as long as they can remember, it's a little weird that Star Trek is in the mainstream.
Sure, everyone who's alive at least knows about Star Trek, but other than Spock and Captain Kirk, who knows what's going on in that universe?
I'm not shy about my dislike for the Transformers movie. I don't think it has to do with any of the actual storylines in the movie, I just think if Shia Lebouf yelled the word "No" one more time, I probably would have thrown my remote at the TV.
If the acting is better in Star Trek, then I think it will be a success. If it's just another typical action movie that happens to have funny costumes, then I think it may feel the wrath of (Khan) moviegoers.
I think just about everyone in this office will be seeing the movie, so the buzz will keep going for weeks to come.
There will be a review of the movie sometime next week, but if you guys see it, make your feelings known right here! (Spoiler Alerts, please.)

Manny Being A Steroid User?

Huge news in the baseball world today, as it was announced that Manny Ramirez of the Los Angeles Dodgers will be suspended for 50 games for a "performance enhancing" drug.
Ramirez is easily the best know player to get caught up in the steroid era, at least officially. Rafael Palmiero did fail a drug test when the penalty was only 25 games for a first offense, but even he was not of the same caliber as Manny.
Other big names, such as Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire have been implicated, but the failed test for Ramirez is quite possibly the first earth shattering proof in Major League Baseball.
Will this hurt Manny's reputation? Will Manny care? I bet Alex Rodriguez is somewhere smiling right now.

WOW! What a Game Last Night!

Did anyone catch the NHL game last night between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals?
It was an incredible game. In essence of full disclosure, I am a Pittsburgh Penguins fan, but still!
My boy Evgeni Malkin finally broke out and made the Caps look silly.
Can't wait for game 4!

YuGiOh R!

Jackalope here with great news for old school duelists everywhere: there is a new Manga coming out.
The Manga will most likely be released later this year, featuring the original cast of Yu-Gi-Oh!.
After GX, and 5 D's it looks like Yu-Gi-Oh will be heading back to its roots. All the old favorites will be featured in the new Manga and Konami has announced issues will contain a promo card.
Will Konami follow through with the card game?
Will they go back to feature cards related to those characters and create new cards based on what is seen in the Manga?
Will an Anime follow? We don't know too much yet but it is exciting times.
What do you think?

It's A Free Realms World, We're All Just Living In It

A new card game called Free Realms came across my desk today.
It's part of a Massively Multi player Online Role-Playing Game, with a video game that came out in April.
The game is set in a fantasy world, with lots of humorous character and situations.
It looks pretty cool, anyone else excited about it?

Chuck Liddell Is Still Tougher Than You Or Me

There's more big news out of the UFC this week.
After multiple poor showings, rumblings of Chuck Liddell retiring is blowing up.
Liddell, along with Randy Couture and more recently Brock Lesnar, can easily be credited with bringing Mixed Martial Arts into the mainstream.
I remember the first time I heard of Chuck Liddell. It was about three years ago, and I couldn't tell you the first thing about MMA.
It was a Sunday night and I was watching "Entourage" (which probably deserves it's own retirement, but that's for another day.)
Out of nowhere, a menacing figure pops up in the show and a "star" is born.
Unfortunately for him, despite his popularity in the media, his career has been on the downturn. He most recently lost at UFC 93 in April to "Shogun" Rua , which caused Dana White to announce that Liddell is retiring, without waiting for input from the fighter.
In a very strong statement, White said, "At the end of the day, I care about these guys. I don't want to see anybody stick around too long. You're never going to see Chuck Liddell on the canvas again."
It's a big loss for the world of UFC and MMA if Liddell decides to officially announce his retirement. I'm only one man, but if you ask me, Chuck Liddell is going to pull a Brett Favre and make at least one comeback.

Red Sox-Yankees

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are set to renew their rivalry tonight, with Jon Lester taking on Phil Hughes, who at one time were two of the highest touted prospects in the majors.
Tonight is just the prequel, with Joba Chamberlain and Josh Beckett matching up tomorrow night.
There are always a bunch of story lines when these two teams match up, but there is even more on the line for both teams in the next two days.
First, Boston is making it's first trip to the new Yankee Stadium.
Second, with the Yankees pitching staff struggling and it's big stars not producing, the much criticized and hated Yankees are under an even closer microscope.
Not only will it be an interesting series, but one that may be important for later in the season.

UFC

Some exciting news from the UFC this week.
On the heels of a disappointing fight between Anderson Silva and Thales Leites, Dana White, commissioner of the UFC announced that Silva will be taking on Forest Griffin in Philadelphia this summer.
This will be the UFC's first foray into Philadelphia and it is sure to be an exciting fight.
Unfortunately, Mixed Martial Arts is still not sanctioned in New York or New Jersey, so this may be the closest UFC will get to the Metropolitan area.
While the big money fight would really be Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva, this fight is not far off.
It will be an exciting summer for MMA, especially UFC.

X-Men Origins Wolverine

X-Men Origins:Wolverine comes out today. A lot of people around the office are excited about it, especially "Dan" who kind of looks like Wolverine.
There has been a ton of hype around the movie for months. I remember seeing the preview for it in January, before I saw "The Wrestler."
I was a little unsure of it back then and to be honest, I'm still pretty unsure about how it will do.
So will it be the No. 1 movie this weekend?

How to Lose $55 Million (And Fans in the Process)

The Dragonball Z:Evolution movie came up in the office today.
What a colossal failure! It's reported that the budget for the movie was a robust $110 million while it only pulled in $45 million in it's short stint at the local Cineplex.
Only about $9 million was domestic, so it's pretty safe to say we did not like it over here.
The first mistake was making it a live-action movie. That's just blasphemous. It would be like turning the Simpsons into a live action flick (with Tom Arnold in the lead and Dakota Fanning as Lisa.)
It should be interesting to see if the producers give it another shot or just retire the whole Dragonball Z as a movie idea.

Twitters & Blogs

Recently, Toywiz has signed up for a twitter account and Blog (duh.)
I'm in charge of the blog, while my colleague Mike (who is a vegan,) is the head twitterer (tweeter?)
This will be a battle to the very end. Who will win? It's up to you to decide.

Preparing for the Future

Toywiz is preparing for the future. Currently we're the resource for the hottest toys and games on the Planet, but how about the Universe?
Who knows what else is out there? Maybe Mars has a Toywiz that we don't even know about.

Toywiz is all over the Internet

Toywiz now has a Twitter page and a Myspace page to go along with the website!
Also, look for us on Facebook!
