Halo 10th Anniversary Figures are finally here!

Though I'm a fan of Master Chief, myself, I have to point out that this grunt - usually my least favorite figure - is awesome.

BUT with that being said...nothing beats this set of 3 Master Chiefs -Master Chief Evolution [Halo, Halo 2 & Halo 3]. If there's only one item to get from the 10th Anniversary Collection, this is it:

You've got to admit - these figures look amazing. Take a look at the others as well - there are just too many good ones to overlook! Halo 10th Anniversary Action Figures from McFarlane Toys

Mass Effect 3 Cerberus Normandy SR-2

Slated for release in time for Christmas, Dark Horse is bringing out a new replica ship:the Normandy SR-2 is ready for action with Shepherd at the helm after the SR-1's destruction. This is an exact 6" replica of the ship from Mass Effect 3.

[caption id="attachment_1336" align="aligncenter" width="346" caption="When an ambush by the mysterious Collectors destroyed the Normandy SR-1, humanity feared that the most advanced ship in their fleet was lost forever. However, the black-ops organization known as Cerberus spent two years rebuilding Commander Shepard's ship in secret, bringing to life the Normandy SR-2, a ship that not only matched, but exceeded its predecessor in every way: bigger, faster, deadlier--an unrivaled force in Shepard's mission to save the galaxy from destruction."]Normandy SR-2[/caption]

Landshark at last!

And a "landfish" too. And we're getting them (Air Swimmers) just in time for my birthday in September, yo! Hint, hint - $39.99 at ToyWiz.com, link is to the left. I'm not saying get me one, just saying they're totally <-right there!

First, what it is: A giant, remote-controlled zeppelin-fish of either the scary shark or more kid-friendly clownfish variety.

Why it's great: Hello! It's a big flying fish with realistic fins that work! These things move faster than you think and are far more agile than I expected. Gone are the days of the lame balloon-on-a-string blimps that just bob in the air (boring)! You can really put this baby right where you want it...in perfect position to startle a friend, perhaps.

Watch the video to see how these Air Swimmers move, then scroll down to find out just why I want one so much.
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIJINiK9azc&w=400&h=255]

So...what would I do with an Air Swimmer?

  • First and foremost, I would chase my pets. The dog, definitely. The cat...well I don't think I'd see the cat for awhile after bringing one of these out.

  • Buzz my roommate while she's on the computer. I can definitely see navigating a shark down the hall and into her room for a good scare.

  • Freak out the neighbor's child. I think I might just coordinate with his parents to fly it back and forth outside his window a few times to see his reaction. (Dad, get the video camera ready - YouTube wants to see it too).

  • Answer my door. I just picture my friends standing there looking into my living room, only to have a giant shark come around the corner, right up to the screen.

  • Deliver messages upstairs...because I'm that lazy and I hate yelling. Instead, I could just attach a note and send it by Candygram Fishgram.

What would you do with an Air Swimmer? I'm looking for ideas!

Bebs Reviews: Halo Mega Bloks Battle Unit II #96915

Hey y'all! I posted this on the Spartan Bloks forums, but I wanted to share it with everyone here too!

This is my first review, so please bear with me! Suggestions are always welcome. I'm also trying to take decent pictures, so this is my first experiment with the macro setting on my camera and a cheap DIY lightbox I built. If it's terrible, let's just agree to blame the lightbox.

I picked up this Halo Wars Mega Bloks Battle Unit II #96915 set specifically to try my hand at customizing minifigures and weapons. It is perfect for grabbing a good selection for projects or for expanding your forces. This one box gave me 8 figures and 8 weapons - all in all, I think it's a great deal for so many.

[caption id="attachment_1308" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="The Package"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1309" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="The contents"][/caption]

It's a nice set, though the Flame Marine is my clear favorite and I'm a little worried about customizing him. I might just leave him alone.

One thing that didn't come through in photos is the color of the Covenant Elites. I've got a close-up shot showing the copper color. It is like a subtle glitter embedded in the plastic. Not super-shiny at all, but gives a subtle, overall slightly metallic look.

In summary, you get:
* One Orange UNSC Spartan II
* One Blue UNSC Spartan II
* One Blue Flame Marine
* One Orange Marine
* Two Copper Elites
* Two Grunts
* 8 weapons

For the price, it's a lot of good figures to help fill out an army or provide relatively inexpensive subjects for customization.

*Note: the Energy Sword is not from this set. That's a plasma blade from Brickarms.

Magic: The Gathering New 2012 Event Deck Releases!

Tomorrow we can finally ship out the new MTG event decks! These are pretty exciting, since they're a lot stronger than some event deck releases we've seen in the past.

[caption id="attachment_1283" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Wizards vs. Vampires in the Ultimate Battle for the division! *It's like high fantasy UFC...kinda. In my mind. A little."]Magic the Gathering Set of Both M12 Magic 2012 Event Decks [Illusionary Might & Vampire Onslaught] [/caption]
From Ian, our resident Magic the Gathering Expert:

Vampire Onslaught is a take on the mono-black vampires deck that has been popular in Standard tournaments since Zendikar's release. On the surface it is a fast beatdown deck, capable of steamrolling a defenseless opponent by turn 5.
But this deck also packs a powerful late game strategy by exploiting the synergy between sacrifice costs, recursion and token generation. Imagine sacrificing your Bloodghast to Bloodthrone Vampire, using Kalastria Highborne to drain 2 life from your opponent, then playing a land to return a hasty Bloodghast from the graveyard and attack for 8! Things get even crazier when you add in Pawn of Ulamog tokens and Blade of the Bloodchief to benefit from your sacrifices. Black removal spells and powerful uncommons like Vampire Nighthawk, Gatekeeper  of Malakir and Skinrender give you a great matchup against other creature-based decks.

23 Swamp
1 Verdant Catacombs
24 lands

Illusionary Might is a take on the classic aggro-control strategy. This deck has efficient early plays like M12's phantasmal creatures and Porcelain Legionnaire backed up with bounce and counterspells. Lord of the Unreal and Grand Architect  power up your aggressive gameplan while protecting your illusions and ramping your mana up to big bombs like Precursor Golem and Steel Hellkite. If your opponent manages to stabilize with a large blocker, Mind Control will instantly turn the tables. The sideboard gives you a boost against mana ramp decks with additional counterspells (Negate and Flashfreeze) and against control with the back-breaking Neurok Commando.

It's bad enough to have a constant backseat driver, but now they think I'm going to put Yoda in my car?

Think again.

I'm one of those people. You know, those people with no sense of direction (go ahead and tease me if you must, I have no rebuttal). Remember when your mother told you never to point because it's rude? Well it is rude, but that's not why I try to never, ever point. Pointing generally leads to personal embarrassment because I'll inevitably be pointing in the wrong direction from whatever I'm trying to demonstrate. That includes pointing toward my own home from just a few blocks away. I'm not even kidding here guys - I have seriously indicated to someone that my home was in a completely different direction because I'd made two turns since leaving it not 5 minutes before. It is that bad.

[caption id="attachment_1273" align="aligncenter" width="165" caption="This was supposed to be the working title for my autobiography."][/caption]

My directional handicap might be amusing if you happen to know me, but it's confusing if you don't, and downright risky if you stopped to ask me directions. And worse still...if I get lost, I'm completely and totally lost. I'm amazed and impressed by people who can "find their way back" from places. Me? I've found my way to another state before I knew I was in trouble before. Enter: Garmin. I love my Garmin GPS! I live by my Garmin and her crisp Australian accent (yes, I chose the Aussie girl - she sounded friendly at the time).

But being so Garmin-reliant for years now, eventually I began to detect a hint of frustration in her voice. I sometimes miss a few turns here and there (I know, it's hard to believe right?). When I do, my electronic Australian friend tries ever-so-hard to set me back on course. "Continue 200 feet, then make a U-turn" is friendly enough. "Make a U-turn" follows with a little more emphasis. When I miss that, sometimes I think there's a deep sigh as she says "recalculating..." and tries again to send me on my way.

Then today I read that I can give up my Aussie backseat driver and go for Yoda or Darth Vader! Star Wars voices might be very cool for someone who can actually follow directions, but for me? No way.

First off, Yoda. You're kidding, right? I'm lucky to follow a simple voice command! Twist that around Yoda-style and all hope is lost. I'm no Jedi behind the wheel. I know it. Yoda knows it. Why make life harder for both of us?

Darth Vader though - that would be disastrous. I do wonder exactly how he'd say "You missed your turn," but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it would probably not be with patience and understanding. For someone like me, trying to navigate the mean streets of my own town is hard enough without the pressure of a Sith Lord breathing down my neck. And seriously, with my track record, we've pretty well established that the force is not with me. I don't stand a chance.

So for now, I'm sticking with my Australian friend. She may be a little impatient, but at least I think I could take her in a fair fight.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="451" caption="I can probably deal with this on the dashboard instead. But if you pair it with the GPS voice, things might get a little too real."][/caption]
